What is happening to my prescription drug coverage?
Starting January 1, 2026, Trust members, excluding those in Kaiser plans, will transition to a new Optum Rx prescription drug plan. All members will receive a new ID card that you will want to start using at the retail pharmacy beginning January 1, 2026.
For our Medicare members, this is a custom Medicare Part D prescription drug plan designed exclusively for Trust members administered by Optum Rx. There are no changes for non-Medicare members except a new ID number.
What happens to my current Optum Rx online account if I already have one?
There are no changes to the login instructions for non-Medicare members and all Medicare members except those in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage plan. Your current Optum Rx online account will remain with the same username and password.
Current Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage members (without a separate Optum Rx ID card) may need to register and create a new sign-on to access the Optum Rx system. Once you have established your sign-on, you should be able to access your current home delivery, prescriptions, preferences and refills. If you have had a separate Optum Rx account when enrolled in another health plan option, the Optum system may recognize your information and provide you with a HealthSafe ID to login to your account. If you encounter this page, enter your password if you remember or click forgot password to reset and access your account. You will not be required to create a new account.
How can I make my transition to Optum Rx easier?
- Make sure that the information on your member ID card is correct.
- If you haven’t already, set up an Optum Rx account at optumrx.com.
- After January 1, visit your account to review your prescription drug benefits.
- Set your communication preferences.
- Download the Optum Rx app to manage your medications on the go.
Will my Optum Home Delivery prescriptions continue to be sent?
Yes. If you currently get your prescriptions through Home Delivery mail-order, most open refills for those medications will transfer to Optum Home Delivery. Refills will mail as scheduled without interruption.
To verify or change your mailing address, contact Retiree Health Care Connect at 866-637-7555, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. ET.
Will Ship & Bill still be available?
Yes. You will have the option to choose ship & bill when you order refills through Optum Rx.
Will my medication continue to be covered?
Every year the Trust evaluates its covered drug list. For 2026, there are minimal changes expected to the covered medications. If your medication is on the drug list, it will be covered. If there are any changes that impact your current medication(s), you will be notified of these changes.
If a medication is not covered on the new plan, you still have options. Optum can help you and your prescriber identify a generic, brand or alternative medication that’s just as safe and effective for you.
